Lanternly — Terms of Service

Last updated: 11 September 2026

These are the terms on which Karama Ltd provides the Lanternly app. They are short because the app is simple: it is an alarm clock that asks you questions from your own notes. Using the app means you agree to them.

Who we are

Lanternly is provided by Karama Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15839792), registered office 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom. You can reach us at support@karama.uk.

The app

Lanternly lets you set an alarm that cannot be dismissed until you have answered questions generated from notes you have written, photographed or imported. You may use it for your own personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple's App Store terms as well as these.

You must be at least 13 to use Lanternly. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to subscribe.

Your notes and your content

Everything you put into Lanternly — notes, photographs, files, videos — stays yours. We claim no rights over it. Turning your notes into questions is the service: by saving a note in Lanternly you give us permission to send the text of that note to our server and to the AI provider described in our Privacy Policy, for the sole purpose of writing questions and sending them back to you. A note you do not save is never sent.

You are responsible for what you put in your notes. Do not import material you have no right to use, and do not include other people's personal information that you would not want processed in this way.

Subscriptions

Lanternly requires a paid subscription ("Lanternly Plus"), sold through Apple's App Store as an auto-renewing subscription. There is no free version: after onboarding, the app can only be used with an active subscription or free trial. The price, and the length of any free trial, are shown in the app before you subscribe. When a subscription or trial ends, alarms you have already set will still ring, but you will not be able to set new alarms or add notes until you subscribe again.

If you have a legal right to cancel a subscription within 14 days of purchase under UK consumer law, you exercise it through Apple in the same way.

Alarms — please read this one

Lanternly is designed to make it harder to sleep through an alarm. It is not guaranteed to wake you. Alarms depend on your phone being on, charged, not in a mode that silences alarms, and running a version of iOS the app supports; and on you having set the alarm correctly. Do not rely on Lanternly as your only alarm for anything where missing it would be serious — an exam, a flight, a shift, a medication time. Use a second alarm.

We are not liable for any loss caused by an alarm not sounding, sounding late, or being dismissed, or by questions being unavailable because question generation was off, your phone had no connection, or our service was down.

What you must not do

You must not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or resell the app; interfere with the service that writes questions or use it for anything other than your own notes in the app; or use the app in a way that breaks the law or Apple's terms. We may stop serving requests from an installation that abuses the service.

Availability and changes

We may change, improve or remove features, and we may stop providing Lanternly altogether. If we withdraw a paid feature during a period you have already paid for, you can ask Apple for a pro-rated refund. We will try to keep the service that writes questions available, but we do not promise it will always be, and the app is provided "as is" to the extent the law allows.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under UK law, and nothing excludes our liability for anything that cannot legally be excluded, such as death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

Privacy

How the app handles your data is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales — unless you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, in which case you may also use the courts where you live.
